Good Afternoon Battlefield Boulevard Subscribers!

I hope you are having a wonderful week now that the rain has moved away from us. As we head into this weekend things are pretty calm at the project site and great progress is being made.

Next week there is a very important lane closure scheduled for the Battlefield Boulevard project. Please pay close attention to the details of the closure announcement below as it may have an impact on many of you.

If you frequently travel across the High Rise Bridge, please be aware of the following lane closure scheduled for the week of Monday, October 6, 2008 through Friday, October 10, 2008.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect the left lane closed between the High Rise Bridge and Exit 291, Battlefield Boulevard, to allow the contractor to install storm drainage systems and a median barrier wall starting on Monday, October 6, 2008 through Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

In addition to receiving weekly email updates, please visit www.i64info.com for more information on the project, see construction progress and learn about lane closures and traffic switches. Drivers can also access current traffic information by calling Hampton Roads TrafficLine at (757) 361-3016 or listening to 610AM radio for up-to-date traffic reports.

Please drive safely and have a fantastic weekend!

Good Afternoon Battlefield Boulevard Subscribers!

It has been a very good week for the Battlefield Boulevard Project. We have experienced great weather this week that has allowed for significant progress. We were also able to meet with some businesses and city representatives to present a project update. I’d like to use this week’s update to share some of that information with you.

During the past six months you have probably noticed many aspects of the project start to come together.  The project team has worked diligently on the following project components:

  • Completion of westbound outside lanes.
  • Switched traffic from westbound main roadway to westbound outside lanes,   March 2008.
  • Demolition of the westbound main roadway.
  • Operations of an on-site concrete plant.
  • New concrete pavement on I-64 main roadway.
  • Completed construction of all bridges.

At this point we are 90% complete with the project. We expect to be substantially complete with traffic back on the main roadway within the next six months.

Although it may have been difficult, initially, to imagine what was going to happen and how all of the plans would come together, I hope each day for the rest of the project that it becomes a little clearer.

Well, now that you know where we’re headed, here’s what we have to do to get there.

Please be aware of the following lane closures for the week of Monday, September 22nd through Friday, September 26th.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect the right lane closed from Greenbrier Parkway, Exit 289, to Battlefield Boulevard, Exit 290, to allow the contractor to complete construction of the Eastbound braided ramp bridge starting on Monday, September 22, 2008 through Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect the right lane closed from Greenbrier Parkway, Exit 289, to Battlefield Boulevard, Exit 290, to allow the contractor to set an overhead sign across I-64 on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
